I  hold a PhD in Experimental Psychology. My dissertation was about the psychology of musical performance. It tested the effect of speed on the performance of a complex coordination task. I got unpredicted results which my colleagues in the field regarded as valuable. As a result of this work, I won the Jack Bartlett Award for Dissertation Excellence from the Department of Psychology, University of Maryland at College Park.

After many years of doing research in neuroscience and cognitive science, I decided to change my career and become a medical writer.

I recently worked for Lockheed-Martin on the National Cancer Institute contract, where I had to do research on new cancer drugs, and then write definitions in 7th-grade-level prose to be posted on cancer.gov.

In October 2007, I completed the American Medical Writer’s Association (AMWA) Core Certification program in medical writing for pharmaceutical companies, which included classes on writing clinical study reports, filing INDAs and reporting clinical trials.

In October 2008, I presented a 3-hour workshop on the musculoskeletal system for the new Science Fundamentals Certificate that AMWA is rolling out to better educate its members who are english and journalism majors.  In my spare time, I write novels.  If you are interested in my creative writing, please point your browser to www[dot]spunstories[dot]com. Please replace the word “dot” with a period.
